Jigawa Approves N2.5bn For Survey On Uranium, Oil Deposits
The Jigawa State Executive Council has approved the release of N2.5 billion for geophysical survey and geoscience study of uranium, oil, and gas deposits in the state.
The approval followed years of preliminary studies and reports on the mineral resources that abound in the state.
Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports, and Culture, Sagir Musa, told newsmen in Dutse that the project will cover sub-surface geophysical and geoscience surveys in areas believed to contain huge deposits of uranium, oil, and gas.
He said that the data generated would aid prospective investors.
According to the commissioner, the approval was part of Governor Umar Namadi administration’s policy to unlock the state’s mineral resources and leverage other areas of comparative advantage to build a resilient and sustainable economy.
Meanwhile, N1.5 billion has been released for renovation of additional classrooms and procurement of classroom furniture to enhance the teaching and learning.
“The council also approved N250 million matching grant to UNICEF for the procurement of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) for the treatment of children with acute malnutrition,” Musa said.
He added that N459 million was approved as capitation grant for 281 Primary Healthcare centres.
“This funding is for the Social Health Insurance programme under the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund, aimed at supporting vulnerable and less-privileged individuals in the state,” Musa added.
