Jigawa Chief Judge visits Magistrates, Shari’a Courts to enhance performance, infrastructure
The Chief Judge of Jigawa State, Hon. Justice Umar M. Sadiq, accompanied by top officials of the state judiciary, has undertaken an extensive tour of inferior courts within the Kazaure Emirate.
This is contained in a press statement issued by Abbas Rufa’i Wangara, Director, Publicity and Protocol, Jigawa State Judiciary on Wednesday.
“In an effort to promote the efficiency of the judicial system at the grassroots level, the Chief Judge of Jigawa State, Hon. Justice Umar M. Sadiq, accompanied by top officials of the state judiciary, has undertaken an extensive tour of inferior courts within the Kazaure Emirate.
“The high-powered delegation included the State Grand Kadi Hon. Kadi Mohammad Sani Salihu, the Chief Registrar of the High Court of Justice Barr. Aisha Ahmed Babura and Chief Registrar Shari’a Court of Appeal, Barr. Kabiru Abubakar Gumel.
“Others were Deputy Chief Registrar Nuraddeen Umar Shehu and Chief Inspector Shari’a Courts, Barr. Isma’il Sani, Director Magistrates Barr. Batula Dauda along with other principal officers.
“The tour is part of a broader statewide inspection aimed at boosting industrial performance and assessing the physical condition of court buildings, and evaluating manpower development needs across all judicial divisions.
“During the visit, the team conducted on-the-spot assessments at the Magistrate Courts in Kazaure and Roni, as well as the Shari’a Courts located in Kazaure, Roni, Giwa, Amaryawa, and Karkarna,” Wangara said.
He added that the Chief Judge emphasized on the importance of manpower and functional inferior court system as the foundation of justice delivery.
“He stated that the visit was designed to identify challenges hindering optimal performance and to find lasting solutions to them.
“We are here to see things for ourselves. The inferior courts are where the majority of our citizens first encounter the judiciary. It is imperative that we ensure these courts are not only structurally sound but also staffed by well-trained personnel capable of delivering speedy and fair judgments,” the Chief Judge said.
He said that the team paid close attention to the state of courtroom facilities, staff quarters, and record-keeping infrastructure. Discussions with judges and staff on the ground focused on manpower development, and strategies to clear case backlogs to improve the overall “industrial performance” of the courts.
“The Grand Kadi also reiterated the commitment of the Shari’a Court of Appeal to ensuring that Islamic law was administered efficiently and called on the staff to shun away all forms of corruption and bribery in the discharge of their official assignment.
“The visit to Kazaure Emirate was one of several planned tours across the state’s three senatorial districts. The findings from these inspections were expected to form the basis of a comprehensive report that would guide future policy decisions, budget allocations, and reforms within the Jigawa State Judiciary,” he said.
