Jigawa Govt Announces 80% Subsidy At It Distributes N2Bn Fertilizer
Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State, on Wednesday, launched the sales of over N2 billion fertilizer for the 2025 farming season.
He said that farmers would enjoy 80 percent subsidy for each bag of the fertiliser, which would be made available and accessible across the state.
The governor who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Senator Mustapha Makama said that the government had set up distribution committees at the state, local government and ward levels to ensure timely and judicial distribution of the fertilizer.
He said that the committees major mandate is to ensure that the fertilizer reaches real farmers through their respective polling units across the 27 local government areas of the state.
“As first batch, a total of 54 trucks had been dispatched to the 27 local government areas. Two for each local government as a start. The local government council chairman is to chair the local government distribution committee and all councillors would chair their respective wards committees,” Namadi said.
The governor announced that farmers would get the NPK 20-10-10 fertiliser at the cost of N28,800 per bag, and no small scale farmer should be allowed to get more than 5 bags, and 20 bags far medium scale farmers.
He therefore warned the committee members and the general public against diversion or any act of misconduct and malpractice in the process of distribution and sale of the fertilizer.
Earlier, Managing Director of Jigawa State Agricultural Supply Company (JASCO), Alhaji Rabi’u Khalid said the company has in stock a total of 80 trucks of NPK 20-10-10 fertiliser, out of which 54 trailers had been dispatched to the 27 local government areas.
“We have made available two trucks to each local government to start with, and immediately it finishes, we will supply more according to their needs,” he added.
