Jigawa Govt, NAPTIP Hold Campaign to Combat Human Trafficking, Irregular Migration

The Jigawa State Government and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) have organised a sensitisation reminar to combat of human trafficking and irregular migration.
The event, held in Kazaure, drew participants from the 12 local government areas under Jigawa North-West Senatorial District.
The participants included Heads of the local councils community development departments, Hisbah officials, social welfare workers, district heads, Imams, and members of local vigilance groups.
This was disclosed in a press statement made available to The Syndicate in Dutse by the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry for Local Government, Malam Najib Umar.
According to the statement, the Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development, Alhaji Ibrahim Garba Hannun-Giwa, spoke extensively on the evils of human trafficking and the need for collective action to contain it.
The commissioner, represented by the Director Social Development in the ministry, Alhaji Muhammad Mukkadas, said the statewide sensitization campaign was to support NAPTIP through the mobilisation of local leaders to carry the message to the grassroots.
Garba Hannun-Giwa reiterated that the administration of Governor Umar Namadi remains committed to promoting human capital development as part of measures to combat human trafficking and irregular migration.
According to him, this is important because it is only when citizens across the 27 local government areas of the state become self-reliant that they can desist from engaging in or supporting acts of human trafficking and focus on opportunities within their communities.
The Commissioner believes that the comprehensive development framework of the state and local government councils would create enabling environment for residents to explore their potentials in diverse fields.
This, he noted, would help generate employment, boost the local economy and enhance government revenue.
