Jigawa High Courts dispose 687 out of 917 cases received in 2025 – Chief Judge

The Chief Judge of Jigawa and Chairman of the State Judicial Service Commission, Hon. Justice Umar Sadiq says the State High Courts have successfully disposed 685 out of the total of 917 cases received in 2025 with 233 cases still pending.
Sadiq, stated this at the state Annual Bar and Bench Meeting in Dutse, reviewing the performance of the courts in 2025 and revealing significant judicial activity across the High Courts, Shari’a Courts, and Magistrates’ Courts.
“The Magistrates’ Courts, who handled the bulk of litigation in the state, recorded a high volume of filings, receiving 5,016 cases. Of these, 2,014 were disposed of, leaving 3,002 cases pending.
“The Shari’a Court of Appeal received 148 cases, disposed of 86, and currently has only 2 cases pending,” Sadiq said.
Highlighting the extensive work of the lower Shari’a Courts, the Chief Judge reported that in 2025, they received a staggering 23,877 cases. Demonstrating remarkable efficiency, the courts disposed of 20,044 of those cases, leaving 3,833 matters still pending.
He expressed his profound gratitude to all judicial officers and stakeholders for their collective efforts in achieving these results. He specifically thanked the Honorable Judges, Kadis, Magistrates, and Shari’a Court Alkalis for their dedication.
He also extended his appreciation to the Nigerian Bar Association, the Ministry of Justice, the Nigeria Police Force, the Legal Aid Council, and the Nigerian Correctional Service for their synergy and contributions towards the efficient administration of justice.
The meeting, which took place at Judicial Complex, Dutse, brought together the leadership of the judiciary, the Ministry of Justice, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), and other key stakeholders in the justice sector.
Also speaking, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Bello Abdulkadir Fanini, reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting the judiciary in its functions.
The atmosphere of the meeting was described as cordial and productive. The Controller of Correctional Centers, Jigawa State Command along with the Honorable Judges, Kadis, State Solicitor General, Chief Registrars High Court & Shari’a Court of Appeal, Secretary JSC, Deputy Chief Registrars, Director Public Prosecution (DPP) Ministry of Justice, Magistrates, and Alkalis, State Counsel, President Magistrates Association of Nigeria, (MAN), President National Association of Shari’a Court Alkalis, State Chairman MAN, State Chairman Shari’a Court Judges present, expressed their satisfaction with the deliberations and the progress being made in the justice sector.
Speaking on behalf of the Bar, the Chairman of the NBA, Dutse Branch, Barr. G. H. Umar, expressed appreciation for the open dialogue and the judiciary’s transparency in sharing performance data. He drawn the attention of the members on the professional conduct in the discharge of their official assignment. G. H. Umar called on the judiciary ‘s total independent and appeal to the State Ministry of Justice to redouble effort towards speedy trial of cases.
The annual Bar and Bench Meeting serves as a crucial platform for judges and lawyers to interact, review the administration of justice, and strategize on ways to enhance the speedy and fair dispensation of justice in Jigawa State.
