Jigawa Higher Education Commissioner meets Birnin Kudu SBMC, appeals for support on students’ retention
The Jigawa State Commissioner for Higher Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Isa Yusuf Chamo, has appealed to the School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) of Government Unity College, Birnin Kudu, to support government efforts in ensuring that students attend school regularly and complete their education.
Chamo stated this when he received the executive members of the committee, who paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Dutse.
He described the role of SBMCs in reforming the education sector as enormous, saying that its contributions were critical to achieving improved academic performance in schools.
Chamo called for collective efforts by all stakeholders to achieve the desired objectives in the education sector.
He emphasized that parents across the state must be sensitized on the importance of education, urging them to ensure that their children are enrolled and remain in school to secure a better future.
The commissioner said that in response to complaints from some parents who were unable to send their children to boarding schools, the state government had established additional day secondary schools to ensure that all students had access to quality education.
Chamo commended the SBMC of Government Unity College, Birnin Kudu, for its dedication and commitment to supporting government initiatives in the education sector.
He also said that the state’s Ministry of Higher Education had inaugurated a six-member committee tasked with engaging school heads, parents, and other stakeholders to address truancy and absenteeism among students in line with government’s commitment toward developing the education sector.
The commissioner assured the committee that itd requests would be given due consideration for possible solutions.
Earlier, the SBMC Chairman of the school, Alhaji Hussaini Hassan Jibrin of Birnin Kudu said the visit was to commend the state government for its commitment to improving the education sector.
Jibrin, also the District Head of Birnin Kudu, appreciated the state government for its plan to renovate the school as captured in this year’s budget.
He also requested for additional student admissions into the school and expressed satisfaction with the commissioner’s dedication to reforming secondary education.
Hussaini assured that the SBMC would intensify efforts to mobilize parents and guardians to ensure that children attend school regularly until completion.
