Jigawa Speaker Urges More Action on Girls’ Education, Safety

The Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, has called for more action to enhance girls’ education, safety and security.
The Speaker made the call in Dutse on Wednesday shortly after a mock parliamentary session conducted by female students to mark the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child.
Dangyatin said even though the well-being and education of girls remain central to sustainable development, this is being threatened by wars, political crises, communal conflicts and other disruptions that have displaced families and shut down schools not only in Nigeria but across the world.
He assured that the state Assembly would continue to pass laws that promote access to education, economic empowerment, safety and protection for girls and all children.
“We supported the allocation of 32 per cent of the 2024 budget and 26 per cent of the 2025 budget to education. This investment is already improving learning outcomes, reducing the number of out-of-school children and expanding access to education for every child regardless of social, economic or geographical background,” the Speaker said.
He described the children’s parliament session participated by girls from different schools, in which they shared their concerns, as inspiring.
The Syndicate reports that during the parliamentary session, the girls appealed to the state government to establish digital centres in all local government areas to enhance learning and access to technology and digital skills.
The members of the children parliament commended the government’s policy of free education for girls from primary to university level.
They said the commitment of Governor Umar Namadi’s administration is giving them hope for a brighter future, and pledged not to waste the opportunities being provided.
