Kaduna State University Lecturers begin indefinite strike

The academic staff of Kaduna State University have commenced an indefinite strike on Tuesday over unpaid salaries and other entitlements.

A circular issued by the chairman of the university’s academic staff union, Dr Peter Adamu, and Secretary, Dr Peter Waziri, said that Kaduna State Government’s response to their complaint lacked “substance, specific details and actionable timelines” of addressing the issues.

The lecturers demands include the payment of withheld salaries for 2017 and 2022, earned academic allowance for 2016, promotion arrears and SWESS allowances, unremitted pension of 2009 to 2019, group life assurance and deceased personnel allowance, total automy, and implementation of 25%and 35% wage award.

The lecturers said that the total, comprehensive and indefinite strike will continue until the government responds favourably to their demands.
