Kano Govt targets N80bn IGR in 2025

The Kano State Government says it plans to generate over N80 billion as Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in 2025.
The Executive Chairman of the Kano State Internal Revenue Service (KIRS) Dr. Zaid Abubakar, said this it in a presentation to the governor at the current High-Level Retreat for high-ranking government officials in Kaduna.
Malam Sanusi Bature, the spokesperson for the governor, stated this in a statement on Sunday in Kano.
He quoted Abubakar as saying that the state plans to generate N20 billion revenue in each quarter of the year, making a total of N80 billion.
“It is important to remember that Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf appointed a new management structure and removed the revenue service’s immediate prior chairman.
“The agency’s performance in the third and fourth quarters of 2024 has improved dramatically as a result of this choice.
“The governor will commission a new tax-collecting mechanism to guarantee successful revenue generation measures.
“It is anticipated that this model will significantly boost revenue collection for the fiscal year 2025, allowing the administration to carry out its campaign pledges in several crucial development areas,” he said.

As part of its significant improvements in tax administration, the Kano State Government, led by Yusuf, plans to start prosecuting all tax defaulters in 2025.
