Kano Police arrest man for allegedly stabbing grandparents to death over food

The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man, Mutawakilu Ibrahim, suspected of stabbing his grandparents to death over food.
The incident occured today at about 09:30am in Kofar Dawanau Quarters in Kano.
The police gave the names of the deceased as Muhammad Dansokoto, 75, and Hadiza Tasidi, 65.
They were said to have had “a food-related disagreement”, as a result of which the suspect allegedly used a knife to stab both victims in various parts of their bodies, causing severe injuries.
“The victims were immediately rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital Kano, where they were confirmed dead by medical personnel”, the command Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa said in a statement.
He said that the corpses were examined and later released to their relatives for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
“The alleged culprit, suspected to be under the influence of intoxicants has been arrested, and based on the directives of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Homicide Section, for discreet investigation.
“The suspect will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation,” Kiyawa stated.
