Katsina approves N37.6 bn for road project, drugs production

The Katsina State Executive Council, on Friday, approved three major projects which are to gulp more than N37.6 billion.

The council at its meeting in Katsina presided by Governor Dikko Radda, approved the funds, which it said was for  crucial projects in health, infrastructure and education sectors.

The State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Bashir Gambo Saulawa said over N1.6 billion was approved for the construction and provision of equipment for the pharmaceutical manufacturing unit at General Amadi Rimi Specialist Hospital, Katsina.

According to him, the unit will initially produce Vitamin B and C syrups and magnesium silicate, with plans to expand to tablet production in the second phase.

He said that the contract was awarded to a reputable firm and will be completed in six months.

Meanwhile, N36 billion was approved by the council for the construction of a new road from Kadanya to Tsakatsa through Kunduru to Radda and Kuraye, with a spur to Majen-Wayya.

The Commissioner of Works, Housing, and Transport, Engr. Sani Magaji Ingawa, said that the road would link rural communities in Kankia and Charanci local government areas, thereby boosting socio-economic activities.

Similarly, the council has approved funds for the construction of perimeter fence at Dr. Yusuf Bala Usman College of Legal Studies, Daura, to enhance the security of both students and staff of the institution.
