Katsina Govt To Construct 70 New Secondary Schools
Katsina State Government has approved the construction of 70 new secondary schools to expand access, reduce congestion, and provide quality education for all children.
The state Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, made this known during the 2025 World Teachers’ Day celebration, on Wednesday in Katsina.
The Governor congratulated teachers across the state, acknowledging their dedication, resilience, and sacrifices in shaping the future of the younger generation.
He said the government will provide electric motorcycles to rural teachers, in addition to the existing rural incentive allowances for those serving in hard-to-reach communities.
Radda disclosed that the 2026 budget allocates a significant share to the education sector to improve infrastructure, teachers’ welfare, learning materials, and overall service delivery.
“In addition to new schools, we are embarking on massive rehabilitation of existing facilities to create a conducive environment for teaching and learning,” he added.
Radda stressed that no nation can rise above the quality of its teachers, noting that educators are the architects of character, discipline, innovation, and leadership in society.
“Our administration has placed teachers at the heart of our education reforms because investing in teachers is investing in the future of Katsina State,” he said.
The Governor revealed that over 7,000 qualified teachers were recruited in the last exercise to address shortages in primary and secondary schools, with plans underway for another round of recruitment.
“This will improve the student–teacher ratio and ensure effective learning delivery across the state,” he explained.
Governor Radda further announced plans to establish Teachers’ Development Centres in each of the three senatorial zones to provide continuous professional training, mentoring, and skill enhancement.
“Education is dynamic, and our teachers must continuously upgrade their skills to meet global standards. These centres will serve as hubs for capacity development across the state,” he added.
Earlier, Hon. Yusuf Suleiman Jibia, Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, explained that best teachers have been selected for recognition after a through transparent, merit-based process.
Also, Alhaji Sada Mohammed Sada, Chairman of the Parents–Teachers Association and District Head of Dutsinma, expressed appreciation on behalf of parents and community leaders for the government’s support for education and recognition of hardworking teachers.
Similarly, Lawal Jibrin, President of ANCOPSS Katsina, commended the Ministry for recognitsing hardworking teachers, saying the honour would inspire greater commitment, professionalism, and innovation among teachers and school leaders.
