Katsina To Benefit From World Bank’s Agric Value Chain Project
Katsina State has been selected to benefit from a World Bank project set to unlock Nigeria’s agribusiness, create jobs and enhance nutrition security.
The project tagged World Bank’s Agriculture Value Chains for Growth (AGROW) is expected to take off soon in the selected states.
According to the AGROW Task Team Lead, Dr. Hardwick Tchale, the project will expand opportunities in Nigeria’s agriculture value chain for sustainable growth.
Tchale, who briefed Katsina State Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda on the project, said the state should get ready for its take off.
“The objective of the project is to unlock Nigeria’s agribusiness sector for job creation and food nutrition security. States need to create a complete value chain circle in agriculture to ensure sustainable economic development,” he added.
Radda welcomed the initiative and pledged the state’s readiness to fulfill the required technical and administrative conditions to access the grant.
“Katsina is an agrarian state with majority of our citizens engaged in farming. However, insecurity has been a major challenge for our farmers. We welcome this intervention as timely with the required modalities to address both economic and security issues in the state,” he said.
The governor assured that the project will be implemented successfully, and expressed the hope that it would serve as catalyst for the economic transformation of the state.
Earlier, the Executive Secretary, Katsina State Development Management Board, Dr. Mustapha Shehu said the project was in line with the government efforts to deepen partnerships and attract investments for the sustainable development and economic growth of Katsina state.
