Kebbi Govt Donates Foodstuffs, N70m To Flood Victims In 3 LGAs
Kebbi State Government has donated foodstuffs to flood victims in three local government areas of the state.
The affected victims are from Fana, Aljannare, and Kampani villages in Dandi, Suru, and Argungu Local Government Areas, respectively.
The government also N70 million to victims of the disaster to cushion their hardship.
The Syndicate reports that the flood, which occurred on Thursday, destroyed two bridges – one in Fana and another linking Dakingari-Kyangakwai road – , with many houses and hundreds of farms affected.
The state Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, who visited the affected areas, conveyed the donation and sympathy of the government to the victims.
He assured them of government support to reduce the hardship and announced that efforts were being made to reconstruct the collapsed bridges.
Senator Tafida presented government’s donation of N50 million and 600 bags of rice to the flood victims in Fana Maigwaza, and Tungar Beddi in Dandi LGA; N10 million and 250 bags of rice for Aljannare victims in Suru LGA; and N10 million and 250 bags of rice to flood victims in Kampani, Argungu LGA.
The Deputy Governor prayed for Allah’s protection from future incidents and urged the people to accept the disaster as the will of God, but urged those living close to rivers and flood-prone areas to relocate immediately.
In their separate remarks, the Chairman of Dandi Local Government, Dr. Mansur Isah and Member representing Dandi Constituency, Dr. Sulaiman Abubakar expressed gratitude to the government for providing relief to the victims.
Dr. Isah told the Deputy Governor that one person died, many houses were destroyed, and hundreds of farms submerged due to the flood.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Suru Local Government, Muhammad Lawal Suru also thanked the state government for the gesture, while in Kamfani IDP Camp in Argungu Local Government Area, the Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Sama’ila Muhammad Mera, lauded the state government for the gesture and reaffirmed their continued support to the administration.
The Deputy Governor was accompanied by the Head of Service, Alhaji Malami Muhammad Shekare, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Shehu Muazu, Directors from the Ministries of Works and Finance, Deputy Chief of Staff, Alhaji Lawali Labbo Maishanu, Chairman SEMA, Hon. Bello Yakubu Rilisko and other officials.
