Kebbi Govt Offers Permanent Appointment To 233 Casual Workers
The Kebbi State Government has offered permanent and pensionable employment to 233 casual workers in two hospitals in the state.
According to Yahaya Sarki, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the state Governor, the move was in fulfilment of a pledge by Governor Nasir Idris in a radio programme to regularise the appointment of the casual workers.
A casual worker from Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, Birnin Kebbi, had in the course of the programme, pleaded with the governor for the absorption of casual staff into mainstream civil service.
The state Commissioner for Health, Comrade Yunusa Musa Ismail, presented the permanent employment letters to the 233 absorbed workers, on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi.
He explained that the beneficiaries were from Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, Birnin Kebbi, and Kebbi Medical Centre, Kalgo.
“If you recall, on January 1st of this year, Governor Nasir Idris was the Special Guest at an interactive session on the BBC Hausa program ‘A Fada Acika,’ where he made several promises.
“Today, he has fulfilled the last of those promises by regularizing the employment of casual workers,” the Health Commissioner said.
Comrade Yunusa, who described the gesture as significant and historic, expressed gratitude to the Governor for his kind gesture, and urged the new permanent staff to rededicate themselves to excellence in service.
He also thanked the screening committee, headed by the Head of Service, Alhaji Safiyanu Garba Bena, co-chaired by Hon. Shafiu Zauro, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties, for their fairness and diligence throughout the process.
Comrade Yunusa appreciated the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, for his consistent efforts in promoting the programmes and policies of the government.
In his remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties thanked Governor Idris for trusting them with the assignment.
He explained that the committee screened 233 casual staff, 138 from Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital and 98 from Kebbi Medical Center, Kalgo, who were all found worthy of earning permanent employment.
Zauro advised the new permanent workers to remain loyal, forthright and punctual in their duties, and pray for the success of the administration.
In his remarks, Yakubu, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, said Governor Idris has penchant for fulfilling his promises, just as testified by the regularisation of the casual workers employment.
“Other promises fulfilled by Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris are the establishment of a Commission for Persons with Disabilities, the appointment of five Special Assistants with disabilities, the construction of a primary school in Malala Quarters, the free distribution of 6,000 water pumps to farmers, the regular provision of drugs to the Zauro Psychiatric Hospital”,
“The Governor has also procured modern equipment and gadgets for Kebbi Radio and Kebbi Television, as well as digitalised both media outfits”, Yakubu said.
He hailed media practitioners in the state, including staff of his ministry for effectively disseminating the policies and programmes of the state government.
In his vote of thanks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Shehu Nuhu Koko, expressed gratitude to the governor for prioritising the affairs of the health ministry.
He also reeled out numerous achievements recorded by the ministry since the assumption of office of governor Idris.
