Khadija Isah, 9 year-old Jigawa’s victim of brutal rape gets justice

The Jigawa High Court sitting in Birnin-kudu has convicted and sentenced one Bashir A Umar to life imprisonment for raping a 9 year-old girl, Khadija Isah and causing grevious bodily harm to her.
Delivering judgement on the case, Justice Musa Ubale , His Lordship found the defendant guilty for both count of rape and causing grevious bodily harm; convicted and sentenced him to life Imprisonment and 7 years respectively.
He was also ordered to pay compensation of N1million to the victim in addition to an order directing the Ministry of Justice to ensure that his name was entered on the Naming and Shaming Registrar of Sexual Offenders of the State.
The state’s Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General, Barr. Bello Abdulkadir Fanini, applauded the judgement.
He said the State Government remained committed to the discharge of its constitutional mandate to protect the life,dignity and property of people in the state, guided by the law,best international practice and driven by its 12-Point Agenda.
“It could be recalled that this case came to light early 2025 and the Government of Jigawa State under the leadership of His Excellency Malam Umar Namadi FCA immediately swung into action.
“While the culprit was charged to court,the victim who suffered a severe physical and mental injury as a result was given medical treatment and rehabilitated by Government, including the relocation of her family to a well furnished 3-Bedroom House in Duste jointly funded by Her Excellency,the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Sen .Remi BolaTinubu and Her Excellency the First Lady of Jigawa State Hajiya Hadiza Umar Namadi,” he said.
