Kidnappers kill man after collecting N10m ransom in Niger

A man identified as Balato Mabinni, has been killed by his abductors after they coerced his family to pay N10 million ransom.
The incident occurred in Magama Local Government Area of Niger State.
Balato was kidnapped while running away from his village, Mabinni, when the villagers learnt of an impending attack by bandits. Family sources said Balato was kidnapped as he moved out of the village to a safer area.
“The kidnappers called and demanded for N10 million ransom. We had to sale all his assets and every other thing he had, and even so, the money was not enough. We had to beg friends and families and other well wishers to raise the ten million naira.
“When the money was taken to them, they told the person who took the money to them to come back until they decide when to release their captive.
“This morning, some people who went to their farms discovered a dead body by the roadside and it turned out to be the body of Balato. They killed him after collecting N10 million, leaving his family in despair and abject poverty,” a source added.
