It was learnt that the suspect has been remanded in a Nigerian Correctional Service facility by a magistrate.
The suspect, was arraigned by the police before a magistrates’ court on a two-count charge of murder and attempted murder.
Police prosecutor, Josephine Awanna, told the court that Emmanuel committed the offences on October 7, at about 5:30am.
According to the prosecutor, the suspect unlawfully killed Linda Emmanuel, 35, by macheting her on the neck and cheek.
“That you, Sunday Emmanuel, on the same date, time and place, unlawfully attempted with the intention to kill your son, aged 3, by macheting him on the head.”
He explained that the offences were contrary to and punishable under Sections 319 (1) and 320 (1) of the Criminal Code Laws of Ondo state, 2006.
The plea of the suspect was not taken in the court, but the prosecutor prayed the court to remand Emmanuel in a correctional facility pending advice from the state Director of Public Prosecution.
The Magistrate, Olateju Odenusi-Fadeyi remanded the suspect at the Correctional Service pending the advice from the DPP.
She adjourned the case till February 2, 2025, for mention.
