Man arraigned 24 hours after bail in similar crime

 

The Police in Abuja on Thursday arraigned a 21-year-old man, Ebuka Owoha, 24 hours after he was granted bail in a similar crime.

Owoha  was arraigned before a Kabusa Grade I Area Court for conspiracy, housebreaking and theft.

He is standing trial alongside one Peter Ojo, 18, and Samuel Eze, 20.

The three were accused of breaking into eight houses in Kabusa, and stole television sets, laptops, phones and other items.

The prosecutor, Mr O.S. Osho, said the offence was committed on July 25, adding that Owoha was just granted bail on Wednesday in a separate case of stealing.

All the three accused persons pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge, but the prosecutor said that, during police investigation, the defendants had confessed to the crimes.

He said that eight members of the community reported the case at the police station on July 26, adding that the offences contravene Sections 97, 246 and 286 of the Penal Code.

The Judge, Malam Abubakar Sadiq, who adjourned the case till Aug. 30, granted each of the defendants bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety each in like sum.
