176 Boko Haram fighters surrender, 140 killed in operation – says MNJTF

The Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) says 140 terrorists have been neutralized by troops of Operation Lake Sanity II in the Lake Chad Basin.

The Commander of the MNJTF, Major General Ibrahim Ali, said during a press briefing on Tuesday in Maiduguri that 176 of the fighters had surrendered

The Syndicate reports that Operation Lake Sanity II is a joint military operation involving troops from Cameroon, Chad, and Nigeria.

Ali also said that operation had achieved significant success, and has led to the recovery of substantial cache of arms.

Some of the arms and other items recovered included 796 rounds of ammunition, one PKM machine gun, five AK-47 rifles, two motorcycles, and eight magazines, alongside various other arms, ammunition, and logistics support items.

According to him, the operation has also resulted in the destruction of several of the terrorists’ logistic bases and staging areas, most especially around Tumbum Fulani, Bagadaza, Zannari, Doron Naira, and other key locations in the Lake Chad Basin area.

He explained that the insurgents who surrendered were being interrogated and processed.

Ali however said that six soldiers lost their lives during the operation.

The MNJTF expressed gratitude to the Chiefs of Defence Staff of all the troop-contributing countries for their.

“The success of Operation Lake Sanity II is a testament to the dedication and commitment of our troops.

“Although the operation continues, the advancements we’ve made are critical steps towards restoring peace and stability in the region.

“The MNJTF remains committed to its mandate of creating a safe and secure environment in the Lake Chad areas affected by Boko Haram and other terrorist groups,” the MNJTF Commander added.
