More rural women accepting child spacing in Yobe – Official

Yobe State Chairman of Family Planning Media Team, Malam Mustapha Yusuf, has said that the state has recorded encouraging stories of rural women embracing child spacing practice in 2024.
Yusuf made this known during the end of year review meeting of the media team, held in Damaturu.
The Syndicate reports that the meeting was reviewed the successes and challenges recorded during the year, and mapped strategies for 2025.
He said that the team had undertaken visits to primary health care centres in Damaturu, Fune, Gujba and Geidam local government areas, and were able to interact with women, health workers and community leaders, and engaged in advocacy on the benefits of child spacing.
On his part, the Challenge Initiative Manager in the state, Dr. Philiman Mamza, encouraged the media team to enhance synergy with the demand generation components to sensitise communities on the benefits of childbirth spacing practice.
He noted that the work of the family planning media team has been made easy with the release of comprehensive statistics by the state primary health care management board.
According to the statistics, the state has trained 250 heathcare providers on childbirth spacing and reproductive health, so as to strengthen child birth spacing services in 242 primary healthcare centers.
The statistics further indicated that 181,853 couples accepted child birth spacing in 2024, in addition to over 200,000 units of child birth spacing commodities provided by health facilities.
