NDLEA arrests 129 suspects, secures 22 convictions in Kano
The Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has secured 22 convictions in October through the Federal High Court sitting in Kano.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics, Public Relations Officer, NDLEA Kano State Command, ASN Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, on Wednesday in Kano.
Muhammad-Maigatari said that the command also seized 709.979 kg of illicit substances in October within the state.
Shedding more light, Mr. Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, the state commander of the agency stated that the command also arrested 129 suspects.
“All 129 suspects are male, and the total illicit substances recovered during this period amount to 709.979 kg, including 309.991 kg of cannabis sativa.
“The other substances seized consist of 741,600 tablets of Tramadol, 2.789 kg of pregabalin, and 0.027 kg of methamphetamine, among others,” he added.
He said that the convictions included individuals such as Ibrahim Tahir, who received a nine-year prison sentence; James Temitope Ajayi, an ex-convict, who received seven years; Adekunle Sunday Adebayo, who received six years; and Salisu Mohammed, a dismissed police inspector previously convicted three times for cocaine dealing, who received a five-year prison sentence.
“These convictions serve as a strong deterrent to those involved in drug-related activities and underscore the agency’s commitment to enforcing the law.
“The suspects arrested have been profiled, and those warranting prosecution have been charged in court, while others have been referred to the counseling unit for support and rehabilitation,” Idris-Ahmad said.
This operation reflects the command’s unwavering commitment to eradicating drug abuse in the state and safeguarding the health and safety of the community.
He commended the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, retired Brig.-Gen. Mohammed Marwa, for his unwavering support and encouragement, which have significantly contributed to these achievements.
The commander also expressed gratitude to the Kano State Government and all other stakeholders for their collaboration and assistance in the ongoing fight against drug abuse.
“The command will continue to work tirelessly in collaboration with all stakeholders to combat drug trafficking and raise awareness of the dangers associated with drug abuse,” he said.
