NEDC upskills journalists, CSOs with Non-Kinetic tools to end insurgency

The North-East Development Commission (NEDC), has organised a 3-day training for journalists and civil society organisations (CSOs) across the North-East on Non-Kinetic approaches to ending insecurity in the region.
The training with the theme ‘Non-Kinetic Approaches to Ending Conflict for the Return of Sustainable Peace and Development’, is to equip the participants with the skills to foster peace-building and promote development in the region.
In his remarks, the Managing Director of NEDC, Muhammad Alkali, said promoting non-kinetic responses was part of the commission’s plan for the stabilisation of the Northeast.
He said that the approach would focus on addressing the root causes of conflict and enhancing harmonious coexistence in the region.
Alkali called for stronger collaboration with the media and CSOs to enable the commission sustain its rebuilding of the region.
In his address, the NEDC’s Head of Corporate Services, Malam Abba Musa, highlighted the role of journalists and CSOs in stabilising the region, saying that the workshop was a continuation of efforts to enhance their capacity.
In his speech, the Chairman of North-East Civil Society Organisations, Amb. Ahmed Shehu, commended the commission for the initiative, emphasising the importance of peace building and strengthening non-kinetic responses to ending insurgency.
The Syndicate reports that the training facilitators included Prof. Umar Pate, Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Kashere in Gombe state; Dr. Nathaniel Danjibo from the University of Ibadan; and Prof. Muazu Abubakar of the University of Maiduguri.
