NEMA distributes relief materials to Kano flood victims
The National Emergency Management Agency, on Monday, distributed relief materials to 198 households affected by the 2024 flood in Kano Municipal, an official has said.
Dr Nura Abdullahi, NEMA Coordinator for the Kano Territorial Office, said this when he flagged off the distribution exercise in Kano.
“The gesture is part of the federal government’s interventions. The relief materials are not meant to compensate the victims but to alleviate their suffering and help them recover from the devastation,” Abdullahi said.
The affected areas include Kankarofi, Yakasai, Dan’agundi, Shahuchi, Tudun Nupewa, and eight other communities within the Kano Municipal Federal Constituency,” he said.
The coordinator listed the food items as follows: 381 bags of 25kg rice, 381 bags of 25kg maize, 381 cartons of spaghetti, 38 cartons of vegetable oil, 30 cartons of seasoning cubes, and 35 cartons of 3-in-1 beverages.
Other materials included 150 bags of 50kg cement, 150 bundles of roofing sheets, 300 pieces of ceiling boards, 50 packets of zinc nails, and 25 bags of 3-inch nails.
In response, the member representing Kano Municipal Federal Constituency, Sagiru Koki, commended NEMA for the gesture.
Koki, represented by the Speaker of the Kano Municipal Legislative Council, Malam Yahaya Abdullahi-Maiduniya, urged the beneficiaries to use the items judiciously.
On behalf of the other beneficiaries, Muhammad Umar thanked NEMA for the assistance, promising to use the relief materials responsibly.
