Neuroscientist bags traditional title in Yobe

A renowned neuroscientist, Dr Mahmoud Maina, has been turbaned as the new Shetima Ilmube of Damaturu Emirate in Yobe State.
The Shetima was turbaned on Thursday by the Emir of Damaturu, Dr Shehu Hashimi II, who charged him to be a good ambassador of the emirate.
He said the appointment was informed by Maina’s exploits in the fields of academic and health care, which made the state proud.
Hashimi called on youths to emulate Maina by studying hard and excelling in their fields of studies and work.
In his remarks, Maina expressed profound gratitude to Damaturu Emirate Council for finding him worthy of the title, assuring that the recognition has ginger him to do more for his people.
The Syndicate reports that Maina is a University of Sussex-trained neuroscientist with interest in cellular and molecular pathogenesis in Alzheimer’s syndrome.
He is currently leading a team of world renowned scientist to uncover the rising cases of kidney failure in some parts of Yobe State.
When asked if the result of the research is ready, Maina said the first set of reports would be presented to Governor Mai Mala Buni in a few days.
“After submitting the report, we will continue running laboratory analysis, and hoping to give him the second report and the final one will come thereafter,” he said.
He thanked members of the study team for their selflessness, saying they were working to help uncover the cause of the disease pro bono.
