Nigeria will present its first ever health report during the country’s health sector Joint Annual Review (JAR) slated to hold from November 6 to 8.
According to the coordinating minister of health and social welfare, Muhammad Ali Pate, the report is a culmination of various surveys and data compiled by different departments and agencies under the ministry to gauge Nigerians’ perceptions of the health system and its impact.
He explained that the report would provide a baseline for ongoing health sector reforms, to enable stakeholders make informed decisions and properly channel targeted interventions.
Pate said at a news briefing on Thursday in Abuja that the Nigeria’s state of the health report will be reviewed during the JAR meeting.
“The JAR will bring together key stakeholders, including state governors, commissioners, and development partners to discuss Nigeria’s healthcare sector progress.
“The assessment will focus on maternal and child health, access to primary healthcare, combating diseases: HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria.”
Pate emphasised that the JAR, coordinated through the Sector Wide Approach (SWAp), would enhance ongoing dialogue among agencies, parastatals, development partners, and media to promote accountability, track progress, and build a unified ‘One Health’ narrative.
