NNPP appoints Abiya as Acting Kano Chairman
The Kano State Chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has appointed Abdullahi Zubairu Abiya as its Acting State Chairman following the removal of the former chairman, Alhaji Hashimu Dungurawa.
The state NNPP Assistant Legal Adviser, Bar. Yusuf Mukhtar, stated this when he spoke with newsmen in Kano on Tuesday.
Mukhtar said that the appointment was ratified by the party’s State Executive Committee (SEC) during an emergency meeting held at the NNPP secretariat in Kano.
He said that the appointment was carried out in accordance with the provisions of the NNPP constitution, after a careful review of reports submitted to the state leadership by the ward through the local government chapter of the party.
Speaking shortly after appointment, Abiya pledged to lead the party with fairness and justice, stressing his commitment to unity and internal democracy.
Dungurawa was expelled from the party, after opposing Gov. Yusuf Yusuf’s plans to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Dungurawa had on Monday addressed a press conference in Kano, expressing his opposition to the governor’s planned defection to the APC.
The former Chairman was expelled by the executives of the party at his Gargari Ward, Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of the state, following a resolution.
The resolution signed by 27 members during the ward’s second executive meeting, under the leadership of the Ward Chairman, Shuaibu Hassan.
According to the resolution, Dungurawa was expelled over allegations of creating divisions within the party, instigating internal crises, failure to pay party dues, and making abusive remarks against the state Governor.
The ward executives described the alleged conduct as unacceptable and detrimental to the image, unity, and progress of the NNPP.
They said the action was taken in strict compliance with the party’s constitution, stressing the need to uphold discipline, unity, and internal cohesion within the party.
The ward leadership disclosed that copies of the resolution have been forwarded to the party’s Local Government, State, and National headquarters for necessary action.
The resolution was also served on the national leader of the party, Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso, and Gov. Abba Yusuf for their information and further directives.
