Northern Govs ‘ll Present Region’s Stand on Tax Reform – Gombe Assembly Speaker

The Speaker of Gombe State House of Assembly, Muhammad Abubakar Luggerewo, has said that Northern governors will present the region’s stand on Tinubu’s Tax Reform.
The speaker disclosed this while fielding questions from newsmen shortly after the opening a four-day retreat for members of Gombe State House of Assembly, in Dutse, Jigawa state capital.
He said that as the federal government and National Assembly are now open to dialogue on the matter, the Northern governors will present the region’s stand on the various aspects of the tax reform bills.
“This is an issue that is currently under contention. I cannot say anything in that regard, but I’m sure our leaders, the northern governors, will present our stand,” Luggerewo said.
Earlier at the opening of the retreat, the speaker said it was specifically to promote the use of Information Technology by the lawmakers to enhance efficiency in their legislative business.
Luggerewo said the theme of the retreat is ‘Technology Adoption For Democratic Development and Promoting e-Legislation’.
“It is designed to acquaint the members of the assembly on the need to adopt IT to ensure consistent and effective legislative activities in the state.
“I am optimistic that leveraging the advantage of IT will help in strengthening our legislative duty, promote democracy and efficient public service delivery,” he added.
He thanked Jigawa state governor, Malam Umar Namadi for gracing the opening session of the retreat, and commended him for operating a people-oriented government and delivering dividends of democracy to Jigawa citizens.
In his remarks, Governor Namadi said the theme signified the commitment of the Gombe Assembly to promote transparency and accountability in the discharge of their responsibilities.
He maintained that using digital tools will simplify the legislative process, thereby paving way for quick passage of bills that will enhance security, social and economic wellbeing of the people.
Governor Namadi said Information Technology is a powerful tool in strengthening democratic process, from e- voting, e-busines, e-Data transmission and storage, to economic and human capital development.
