NSCDC Arrests Fake Reps Member Attempting To Defraud Commandant General
A fake member of the House of Representatives has been arrested in Abuja after he walked into the office of the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Professor Ahmed Audi, with the intent to defraud him.
The suspect, Hassan Sani Jikan Mallam, accompanied by a retinue of fake aides, had claimed to be representing Katsina Federal Constituency.
The Commandant General, however, quickly saw through his lies and arrested him alongside his accomplices Obeten John, Abubakar Mohammed, and Lucky Ndirika Emenike.
Audi directed the NSCDC Special Intelligence Squad to investigate the four suspects for criminal impersonation and forgery.
Already, preliminary investigation revealed that Jikan Mallam has been posing as a House of Representatives member, issuing official correspondences and complimentary cards bearing the logo of the House of Representatives.
“During profiling and interviews, the suspect, Hassan Sani Jikan Mallam, confessed that he hired an SUV PRADO Jeep with registration number ABC 359 GN, a car for hire, with a driver named Lucky Ndirika Emenike through one Ismaila, who is a car-for-hire driver as well.
“The prime suspect further confessed to requesting a security orderly, and one Inalegwu Ameh, who was alleged to be a Nigerian police officer on guard duty at the NICON Luxury Hotel, volunteered to join the team,” the NSCDC said in a statement by Afolabi Babawale, National Public Relations Officer.
The investigators also discovered that the suspect has been to the Spanish embassy seeking visa for over 10 people, and was at the Ministry of Art and Culture, Transmission Company of Nigeria, and the Ministry of Works and Housing.
Items recovered from the suspect include multiple complimentary cards, fake National Assembly letterheaded papers and envelopes, signed copies of letters addressed to the Ambassadors of Spain, France, the Netherlands, China, and others, as well as Federal Inland Revenue Service and Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation’s Human Resources Department. There were also pictures of him with some ambassadors.
The suspects will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
