Nurse abducted from Katsina hospital freed after N19m ransom payment
A nurse, Yusuf Muhammad Mairuwa, who was abducted while on duty at Kankara General hospital in Katsina State, has been freed 45 days after he was kidnapped by bandits.
A relative of the deceased who preferred anonymity said Yusuf was released on Friday after the payment of N19 million ransom.
Three people were abducted from the hospital on January 14, while a medical doctor and one other were injured during the attack at about 8pm.
The gunmen had initially demanded for N540 million ransom.
Yusuf’s relative said N19 million was collected by the bandits before freeing him.
“It was a very difficult situation for his family, friends and well-wishers, but Alhamdulillah, we thank Allah he has been released,” he added.
Meanwhile, not less than 10 villagers have been killed by bandits in some villages in Tafoki ward of Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Chairman of the local government, Musa Ado, who confirmed the incident, said 8 people were killed in Gidan Ciwake, Gidan Nakuba and Kwanar Doka, and two others in Tafoki.
He also said that the bandits razed 15 houses, stole 8 motorcycles and burnt one.
