NURTW Hails Approval of N117.1m To Set Up CNG Conversation Centre In Jigawa
By: Ahmed Aminu, Dutse
The Jigawa State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), has commended the state government for approving the release of N117.1 million for the establishment of Compress Natural Gas (CNG) conversion centre in Dutse, the state capital.
The NURTW made the commendation through its general secretary, Comrade Ibrahim Ahmed Kwaimawa in an with interview with The Syndicate in Dutse.
He expressed gratitude to the state governor Malam Umar Namadi for the initiative, saying it will speed the availability of CNG vehicles in the state.
Comrade Kwaimawa said the CNG policy is the best so far introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration because of its positive impact.
He added that the inclusion of NURTW as member in the CNG Presidential Initiative Committee was a clear testimony of the government commitment to reducing the cost of transportation occasioned by the hike in fuel prices due to the removal of subsidy.
“Moving from gasoline to Compress Natural Gas (CNG) would reduce the cost of transportation and ease the suffering of commuters.
“Another advantage of the policy is that it will contribute to climate change control and reduce pollution.
“I believe when the projects kick-start in Jigawa it will benefit all categories of people, particularly the common man,” he said.
He noted that the decision to later set up more CNG conversion centres will make it easier to have CNG vehicles across the state.
“The governor is the first in northern Nigeria to provide enough funding for the establishment of the conversion centers, training, and procurement of the kits. I’m optimistic that with Namadi’s actions and commitment, Jigawa would be the leading state in the use of CNG vehicles in the country”.
Comrade Kwaimawa called on other governors to emulate the Jigawa example to complement the efforts of the federal government.
He also called on the governors to involve the road transport union in the matter, being a major stakeholder in the transport sector.
The Syndicate recalls that the state executive council has approved the release of the N117.1 million for the establishment of CNG centre at Dutse Skills Acquisition Center for the conversion of Vehicles, Tricycles, Motor Cycles and Water Pumping Generators.
Before now, there is no single CNG conversation center anywhere in the state.
