OGP Unveils New Plan To Address Critical Governance Challenges In Jigawa

The Jigawa State Open Government Partnership (OGP) has unveiled its final Strategic Action Plan III (SAP III), designed to improve transparency, accountability, and service delivery across key sectors for sustainable development in the state.
The new work plan, which outlines five thematic areas, was developed by the OGP in collaboration with the Jigawa State Government and the UKaid-funded Partnership for Agile Governance and Climate Engagement (PACE).
It aims to address critical governance challenges and strengthen institutional capacity for effective public service delivery.
Speaking to The Syndicate, the Co-Chair (Non-State Actors) of the Jigawa OGP, Comrade Isah Mustapha, said the final document was adopted during a two-day workshop on the review and update of the plan, supported by PACE.
According to him, the five thematic areas covered under SAP III include Fiscal Transparency and Accountability, Anti-Corruption, Access to Justice, Climate Action, and Service Delivery.
On the Climate Action thematic area, Comrade Mustapha explained that the OGP steering committee agreed to integrate climate resilience, renewable energy adoption, and sustainable financing into state planning and implementation frameworks.
He said these effort are aimed at mitigating challenges such as flooding, drought, and other climate-related risks, adding that “under the Fiscal Transparency and Accountability component, citizens will have increased access to and participation in budgeting and procurement processes”.
“This will ensure efficient delivery of projects and services in key sectors such as health, education, agriculture, livestock, water resources, and transportation”.
On Anti-Corruption, the plan seeks to strengthen institutional mechanisms to promote transparency, integrity, and accountability across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
For the Access to Justice thematic area, the plan aims to ensure timely prosecution and adjudication of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) cases through coordinated institutional mechanisms, while also reducing case delays and improving efficiency in civil justice delivery.
The fifth thematic area, Service Delivery, focuses on improving transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness in economic empowerment and social protection services.
Comrade Mustapha expressed optimism that effective implementation of the SAP III document would significantly advance good governance and sustainable development in Jigawa State.
He commended the Jigawa State Government and PACE for their continued partnership and support toward achieving the objectives of the OGP.
