PDP Chairmanship: Jigawa Rejects Turaki, Go For Lamido

The Jigawa state chapter of the People’s Democratic party (PDP) says it is not part of the purported endorsement of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki as the North West PDP consensus national chairmanship candidate.
The state PDP chairman, Dr Babandi Ibrahim Gumel said those who announced the endorsement do not mean well for the party and the North West.
According to him, former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido was the best person to steer the PDP out of its present predicament.
“Our leader was suggested by chieftains of the party at the National level and other national leaders as the right candidate who can revive the party from its slumber.”
Dr Babandi, who made this known during a Radio Sawaba political programme monitored in Dutse, said they await the reaction of the leadership of the party on Turaki’s purported endorsement.
The Syndicate reports that the PDP had zoned the positions of national chairman to the North-West ahead of the November national convention of the party scheduled for Ibadan.
According to him, nobody was consulted and due process were circumvented.
Babandi explained that stakeholders had agreed to meet on Thursday, October 23, to deliberate on the zone’s choice, only for some people to announce Turaki’s purported endorsement on Wednesday, October 22.
“We agreed to hold our meeting on Thursday at about 8:00pm under the chairmanship of Zamfara State Governor, but to our dismay on Wednesday those who asked us to go and nominate from North West went ahead to nominate the candidate of their choice.
“Our leader Dr. Sule Lamido has not been notified for the North caucus meeting until an hour to the meeting.
“Among those nominated none of them bought form to show interest in being chairman of the party,” he asserted.
Babandi noted that their main concern is for the PDP to be at the hands of somebody who can revive it and overcome it’s challenges.
“We have been in the party for the last 26 year, therefore, we don’t want anything that can destabilise the party,” he said, adding that they will do everything possible to see that the right person assume leadership of the party, for the unity and progress of the party and the country in general.
