By: Ahmed Aminu, Dutse
The screening committee for Saturday’s Jigawa Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) wards congress, says it plans to adhere strictly to the party’s constitution and congress guidelines for the conduct of its assignment.
The Chairman of the committee, Dr Aminu Taura, said this when he fielded reporter’s questions shortly after the inauguration of the committee at the party’s secretariat in Dutse.
Taura said that the committee was constituted to ensure strict adherence to the party’s construction and ensure a level playing field to all members participating in the congress.
The chairman said that according to the guidelines, all aspirants most posses the requirements for the position they sought to occupy.
“The requirements to be met are that a person must be 18 year and above, must be party’s card carrying member of not less than 18 months and a be in financial good standing on his or her annual dues.
“An equal representation is also something to be strictly adhered to. This is to avoid marginalization for any area in all the 287 political wards.
“This time around, the party gave a new instruction as part of guidelines for the congress on women. The new instruction is that six positions most be reserved for women in each of political wards of the state. This is in line with women efforts and commitment when coming to issues of voting. All can testify that women are more in number of any polling unit on election days.
“We where selected to handle the assignment on trust and confidence, not because we are better than others, but an honor for us to do the job,” he said.
