Police arrest 200-Level varsity student over alleged infanticide

The Jigawa State Police Command has taken into custody a 200-level female student of Federal University Dutse (FUD) who allegedly plunged a new born baby from a high rise building.
The suspect and the body of the baby were taken to Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Dutse, according to a statement made available to The Syndicate on Thursday in Dutse by the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Lawal Shiisu Adams.
“Information from reliable sources revealed that a 200-level student of Federal University Dutse (FUD) gave birth to a baby girl and thereafter threw her down from a female upstairs hostel, as a result, the infant died instantly,” he stated.
According to him, a team of Policemen raced to the scene of the crime and conveyed the baby and mother to Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Hospital Dutse where the infant was certified dead by a medical doctor on call.
The command spokesman added that the suspect was placed on therapy as investigation continues on the matter.
