Police Arrest 51 Thugs, Recover Dangerous Weapons, Illicit Drugs In Kano

…  bans brandishing of weapons during traditional ‘Kidan Gangi’ performance

The Kano State Police Command has arrested 51 suspected thugs locally known as ‘Yan daba, and recovered dangerous weapons and assorted illicit drugs.

According to DSP Hussaini Abdullahi, Deputy Police Public Relations Officer of the command, the police conducted a clearance operation in criminal hideouts in some parts of Kano Metropolis.

The operation covered Kano Municipal, Dala, Gwale, and Tarauni Local Government Areas, specifically in Kofar Mata, Zage, Kurna, Rijiyar Lemo, Dorayi, Hotoro, and Sheka Quarters.

The three-day operation between Friday, 13th and Sunday, 15th June 2025, was part of the command’s commitment to decisively tackle thuggery and associated crimes across the state.

The statement added that the Commissioner of Police in the state,  Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has announced ban on the brandishing weapons in the name of traditional performances, including “Gangi”.

The command also banned the display of dangerous weapons on social media platforms like TikTok, Facebook, X, and Instagram, etc. which encourages and recruits teenagers to engage in thuggery-related crimes.

“The Command urges parents and guardians to monitor their children and wards’ activities and report any suspicious behaviour as anyone caught committing such acts will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.

“Parents who conspire with their children or wards to keep such dangerous weapons in their homes, and blacksmiths who fabricate such for them will be investigated as well.”

It appreciated the general public’s cooperation in maintaining peace and security in Kano state.
