Police arrest 6 suspects, recover 3 stolen tricycles in Kano
The police command in Kano State, has arrested six suspects and recovered three stolen tricycles and five motorcycles in separate operations across the state.
The spokesperson for the command, Mr Abdullahi Kiyawa, stated this in a statement on Monday in Kano.
Kiyawa said the arrests were made following a series of intelligence-led operations and swift responses to distress reports.
He said the breakthrough was achieved through coordinated efforts by operatives of the Criminal Investigation Department, as part of ongoing measures to curb theft and other criminal activities in the state.
“The Command achieved remarkable breakthroughs in its fight against crime with the arrest of six suspects and the recovery of stolen tricycles and motorcycles.
“These efforts reflect our commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents,” he stated.
Kiyawa said that on Oct. 14, at about 2pm, the police received a report that two suspected tricycle thieves, 44-year-old Nura Ibrahim of Gaskiya Layout, Zaria, Kaduna State, and Sunusi Bala, 22, of Gusau, Zamfara State, were apprehended by residents along Airport Road, Kano, while attempting to steal a tricycle.
“The suspects were rescued from mob action by the police and rushed to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital for treatment after sustaining injuries,” he said.
Kiyawa said that the suspects had hired a tricycle rider, administered intoxicants to him, and attempted to steal the vehicle before the victim raised an alarm that drew the attention of passersby.
“Investigations revealed that the suspects used the same method to steal five other tricycles. Acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, operatives traced and recovered two additional tricycles in Funtua, Katsina State, leading to the arrest of two accomplices, 46-year-old Bashir Muhammed and 48-year-old Sunusi Musa,” he added.
He said that on Oct. 10, reports of persistent motorcycle theft along the Kano–Wudil Road led to the arrest of one Umar Isah, 34, at Na’ibawa Quarters, Kano.
“Three stolen motorcycles were recovered from him. “The suspect confessed to specialising in receiving stolen motorcycles.
“Similarly, on October 15, 2025, a tip-off from a resident led to the arrest of Idris Isyaku, 28, at Na’ibawa Flyover, where two stolen motorcycles were recovered,” he said.
Kiyawa said the suspect also confessed to buying stolen motorcycles from thieves.
Among the recovered items, according to him, are three Bajaj and TVS tricycles, yellow in colour, with and without registration numbers, and five motorcycles, including Companion, UD, Boxer, Motor B, and Ladies models.
Kiyawa urged members of the public who had lost tricycles or motorcycles to contact the Investigating Police Officer via 07010161372 or visit the Public Relations Office at the Command Headquarters with proof of ownership.
“The state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, urges residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movement or criminal activity to the nearest police station,” he added.
