Police Intercept 954 Suspected Explosive Materials in Zamfara
A police team in Zamfara has intercepted 954 pieces of suspected explosive materials on Tuesday.
A statement issued by the Zamfara Police Command spokesman, DSP Yazid Abubakar said that the items were apprehended by operatives of the Task Force on Illegal Mining of the command.
A suspect, Mustapha Mohammad, 38, who was conveying the explosives in a Toyota Corolla car was instantly arrested.
“A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of nine hundred and fifty-four (954) pieces of suspected explosive materials, concealed in polyethylene bags.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the recovered materials are suspected to have been intended for use by bandits as Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
“The suspect is currently in police custody, while the exhibits have been secured and formally handed over to the Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team for safe custody and detailed analysis.
“Investigation is ongoing to determine the source, destination, and intended use of the recovered materials, as well as to identify and apprehend other possible accomplices connected to the crime,” Abubakar said.
