Police recover 5 guns, 260 live ammunition, arrest suspects in Kaduna
The Kaduna State Police Command has intercepted a supplier of arms to bandits in Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The suspect, Murtala Usman, a resident of Galadimawa was in possession of a brand new AK47 rifle and 200 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunitions when he was arrested.
According to the police, the suspect, who was on his way to supply the gun to bandits when he was intercepted, said he has so far supplied four rifles to bandits in the last four months.
The police command spokesperson, Mansur Hassan, also said in a statement that a gun snatched from a policeman since May 15, 2019, has been recovered.
“On October 19, 2025, at about 1100hrs, the police in Kafanchan Area Command received information that one Usman Shauibu, aged 28, armed with an AK 47 rifle, had criminally trespassed into a bakery with the intent to rob the workers.
“Police teams from both division and Area commands, mobilized and apprehended the suspect.
“During the encounter, the suspect started shooting at the police, unfortunately a passerby named Mohammed Abdumumin, aged 27, was shot in the leg by the criminal, but eventually the police team, with community assistance, tactically apprehended the suspect and recovered one AK-47 rifle with four rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, and 43 pieces of 9mm Berretta pistol ammunition.
“The AK47 rifle recovered from the suspect is the one that was previously snatched from one Inspector Ibrahim Nawa on May 15, 2019, during an attack by bandits at the General Hospital Kafanchan,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, 11 rustled cattle were recovered by the police in Hunkuyi Division in collaboration with local vigilance group on 16th October 2025, while in Gwargwaje area of Zaria, two suspects were arrested after an exchange of gunfire.
They are Sadiq Idris, 21, from Kumbotso LGA, Kano State, and Usman Aminu, 21, of Panshekara, Kano State.
While Sadiq was arrested at the scene with an English pistol, with five (5) rounds of live .9mm ammunitions and Pump action gun, Usman had in his possession nine rounds of .9mm live ammunition.
“Further investigation led to the arrest of Abdulaziz Usman, 25, of Tudun Wada, Kaduna; Jibren Yahaya of Panshekara, Kano; Hajara Abdulkarim, 20, of Kusfa, Zaria, and Fatima Alhassan, 18, also of Kusfa, Zaria.
In another operation on 14th October, 2025, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, arrested one Yakubu Adamu of Izzam Village, Igabi LGA, Kaduna State, in possession of a fabricated AK-47 rifle.
“On September 17, 2025, at about 1300hrs, a distress call was received from one Abdullahi Habibu of Kofan Doka, Zaria, that one Abubakar Haruna lured him to his house and made away with his Honda Accord Saloon Car with registration number KUJ 213 DK.
The DPO Sabon Gari Zaria mobilised his men, the suspect was pursued and arrested. The vehicle was later recovered. The Commissioner of Police in the state, Rabi’u Muhammad has commended the operatives for their diligence and urged the members of the public to continue to support the police with credible information to curb the menace of crime and criminality in the state.
He warned criminals to stay away from the state as Kaduna is now safer for law abiding citizens.
