Twelve persons, comprising 10 males and two females were burnt beyond recognition in a road crash along Baimari-Geidam road in Yobe State.
The FRSC’s Sector Commander in Yobe, Livinus Yilzoom, disclosed this in a press release made available to journalists in Damaturu.
He said that the crash occurred at about 10:00pm at Km 20, Kyalluri village along Baimari-Geidam road on Tuesday.
Yilzoom added that the accident involved a stationary Howo truck with registration number MAG 831 ZR belonging to DAN NENE Construction Company and a Sharon mini bus with registration number BAU124YF.
He said that the mini bus ran into the stationary truck and caught fire, thereby burning the 12 occupants of the bus beyond recognition.
According to the sector commander, preliminary investigation revealed that the accident occured due to the obstruction of the road by the HOWO truck, and the excessive speed and overload by the driver of the Sharon vehicle.
He admonished motorists to avoid night travels because of the danger of poor visibility which is further compounded by the present hazy harmattan weather.
Yilzoom called on motorists to obey road traffic rules and regulations at all times to forestall such accidents.
He extended the condolences of the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, to the bereaved families.
