Saudi- based scholar tasks Alaafin of Oyo on new Imam for Oyo town

A Saudi Arabian-based Islamic scholar, Amb. Mallam Ibrahim Agunbiade (Abu Jannāt), has appealed to the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abdul Hakeem Owoade Elewuetu 1, to ensure that the best qualified person is selected as the next Imam of Oyo town.

This is  contained in an open letter tagged “An Appeal to His Imperial Majesty” by Agunbiade (Abu Jannāt) in Abuja on Saturday.

“I write to express my profound gratitude and deep admiration following the recent historic visit of the Oyo State Muslim community to your esteemed palace, an event that continues to resonate with joy and pride among us all. By extension, this visit symbolically represented the entire Muslim Ummah across South-Western Nigeria.

“I was privileged to be part of the delegation, and I must confess that the warm discussions and cheerful reflections shared after our departure from your royal presence were heartening and unforgettable.

“Your enthronement, at this critical juncture in our national and cultural evolution, is a divine blessing to the Yoruba nation and to Nigeria at large. You embody the hope, courage, and visionary leadership necessary to protect and promote our cultural dignity and spiritual legacy amid growing challenges.

“In light of this, I humbly appeal to Your Imperial Majesty to consider, with your signature wisdom and foresight, that the next Imam of Oyo town be a personality who reflects the highest standards of scholarship, moral uprightness, and intellectual depth a leader grounded in Islamic jurisprudence, enriched with academic distinction, and endowed with a temperament of peaceful coexistence, humility, and bridge-building across all religious divides,” Agunbiade said.

He recommended Barrister Bilal Akinola Husayn Akeugberu for the position, saying that he was most qualified to be named as the Imam.

“In this regard, I respectfully recommend: Barrister Bilal Akinola Husayn Akeugberu, Esq.

“He is, in my honest assessment, the most fitting candidate for this revered and spiritually vital position. I am confident that sincere inquiries within and beyond the Muslim communities of Oyo town, Oyo State, and indeed the South-West, will confirm his piety, scholarly competence, and communal spirit.

“Indeed, Allah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala) has blessed the Yoruba nation with your visionary leadership as the Olori Oba Yoruba, and through your noble intervention, we continue to pray for the emergence of an Imam who will serve as a unifying symbol, respected and embraced by all Muslim societies, associations, and communities across Oyo State and Nigeria.

“May Allah continue to grant Your Imperial Majesty long life, sound health, and divine guidance. May He bless Oyo town, Oyo State, and the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Aameen.”
