Scores die, others wounded in IPOB, soldiers shootout in Imo
Gunmen believed to me members of the proscribed Indegenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have reportedly engaged the military in a fierce gun battle in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.
Many have been reported dead and injured, according to sources.
“Some non-state actors attacked and killed some soldiers in the area yesterday. The whole place is on fire, and troops have taken over nearby communities.”
Residents fled in panic as constant shootings filled the air, creating a climate of fear and uncertainty.
“We are terrified,” said a resident, who wished to remain anonymous. “The sound of gunfire is still echoing in our ears. We don’t know what will happen next. We are worried, Ehime used to be a serene environment, we dont know what is happening.”
Police and Military authorities are yet to release any statement on the incident.
The shootout is the latest in a series of security breaches in the South East, where IPOB militants have been unleashing violence and deaths on citizens.
