The Senate on Wednesday removed Justice Danladi Umar as the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal.
His removal was through a resolution supported by 74 senators, which is more than the two-thirds majority provided in Section 157 (1) of the 1999 Constitution.
President Bola Tinubu is expected to give effect to the resolution of the Senate in line with the law.
President Tinubu had in July announced Mainasara Umar Kogo as replacement for Umar, but was unable to take over as the President lacks the powers to remove CCT chairman.
The Senate voted to remove Umar as provided by the Constitution, owing to what the Senators called series of “overwhelming allegations”, including corruption against him by EFCC and ICPC.
They also cited a “physical street brawl with a security man in the FCT.”
