Senate Succumbs To Pressure, Sets Up Committee To Review Tax Reform Bills
The Senate has constituted a committee headed by the Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro (PDP, Benue South) to address the grey areas in the tax reform bills.
This was announced during Wednesday’s plenary presided by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin (APC, Kano North).
Barau agreed that there were controversies over the bills, as such there was need to consult critical stakeholders including the the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF).
The executive bills were transmitted to the National Assembly by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on October 3, 2024.
According to the executive, the bills were meant to bolster Nigeria’s fiscal institutions, in line with the government’s broader development objectives.
Nigerians including governors, traditional rulers, civil society organisations, some federal lawmakers and others have, however, kicked against some provisions in the bills.
Members of the committee include Titus Zam (APC, Benue North West), Orjir Uzor Kalu (Abia North), Sani Musa (APC, Niger East), and Abdullahi Yahaha (Kebbi North), among others.
