Senator Collaborates With NEXIM Bank To Exploit Jigawa’s Export Potentials

The Senator representing Jigawa northwest senatorial district, Senator Babangida Hussaini in collaboration with Nigerian Export and Import (NEXIM) Bank has organised an exporters enlightenment programme aimed at exploiting the potential of Jigawa state in the export market.
This is to address gaps in the state’s ability export agricultural products.
Speaking at the opening of the enlightenment programme in Gumel, the senator has international marketable products such as Hibiscus, Sesame, and Soya beans, but remains one of the least beneficiaries of the export market.
“In one of our discussions with the management of NEXIM Bank, I intimated them about the potentialities of exporting products in my constituency where we agreed on this important event.
“Under this programme, NAXIM bank has decided to establish a framework, engaging my people and telling them on importance of production, processing, packaging and exporting the products”.
Hussaini pledged to support the promotion of non oil products and goods for export to international markets.
“Jigawa cultivate Habiscus, Sesame etc which are of premium grade in the global market, but the people of the state are not benefiting from exporting the commodities,” he added, and pledged to continue collaborating with NEXIM Bank to enhance the skill and capacity of the people of the state to reap the advantages in exporting the products.
This, he said, would help to eradicate poverty, create jobs and sustainable livelihoods.
In his remarks, the Managing Director of Nigeria Export and Import (NEXIM) Bank, Mr Abba Bello, said the engagement was aimed at enlightening the people on the opportunities and potentialities available in exporting non-oil goods from Jigawa state to other countries.
He said they chose to take their campaign on export promotion to Jigawa because the state has comparative advantage in many agricultural products ranking high in non-oil export from Nigeria.
Bello, represented by Alhaji Ibrahim Khalil Gaga, it was unfortunate that despite the agricultural potentials of the state, it still count among the major poverty striking states in Nigeria.
“We organised this engagement to enlighten the people of the state on how they can take advantage of different facilities in our bank to commence exporting agricultural products such as Sesame and Hibiscus that are produced in large quantity in the state.”
“We are also enlightening people on the processes, rules and regulations for exporting products to foreign countries, and how you can reach us as individuals or group for more comprehensive guide,” the managing director said.
Bello added that promoting export will enhance local skills, create jobs, and create wealth, growth and development.
