Senator Sunday Katung on Sunday distributed bags of rice to vulnerable Muslims in Kaduna South Senatorial District as palliatives for the holy month of Ramada.

Danlami Shuaibu, Chairman of the distribution committee, presented the items on behalf of the lawmaker in Zonkwa.

He said items include 50 bags of 50kg rice, 200 bags of 25kg and 700 bags of 10 kg of the commodity.

Danlami said the items were for distribution based on the population of the Muslim community in each of the eight Local Government Areas in the zone.

According to him, the foodstuff was part of the Senator’s efforts in assisting the people in this sacred month as well as elevate conditions of the underprivileged.

He explained that proper arrangements have been made to ensure that the palliatives were not diverted and got to those who deserved it.

“We have formed sub committees that would go round to ensure that the items reach the most vulnerable members of our Muslim community,” he stated.

Receiving the allocation for Kachia LGA, Malam Adamu Laduga, described the gesture as timely, considering the current economic hardship faced by the people.

Adamu called on other well meaning individuals and organisations to emulate the lawmaker in providing succour to vulnerable members of society.

“Senator Katung did not abandon his people, particularly when they needed him the most. I urge other politicians to emulate him in extending helping hands to their people.”

Malam Suleiman Joji, who received the items for Kauru LGA, noted that the intervention from Katung showed the premium he placed on the welfare of his people.

Suleiman noted that Katung’s short term at the National Assembly had brought unprecedented development to the people of Southern Kaduna.

“Never have we had a lawmaker that has his constituents at heart like the present Senator.

“It is our prayer that the Almighty Allah would continue to uplift and make him a shining example to others,” he added.

He also urged Muslims to use the Ramadan period to move closer to Almighty Allah and conduct themselves properly to maximise the spiritual and the social benefits of the month.

Others who spoke prayed God to replenish the lawmaker’s pockets and grant him the strength to do more for the people of the zone.
