Southern Kaduna Youths Declare Support For Senator Katung, Reject Recall Bid
The Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU) National Youth Wing has strongly condemned a recent move by a group identifying itself as the Southern Kaduna Progressives Youth Network, which announced plans to initiate a recall process against Senator Sunday Marshal Katung.
At a press conference held on June 16, 2025, the group also called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the senator.
In a swift response, the SOKAPU Youth Wing in a statement signed by Comrade Solomon Simon, National Coordinator, Comrade Aruwa Alhassan, Secretary General, and Comrade Isah Emmanuel Anjadick National P.R.O, described the move as “divisive,” “ill-timed,” and unrepresentative of the broader interests of Southern Kaduna youths.
“As the umbrella body representing all Southern Kaduna youths, we reject the antics and motives of this group, which appear to be politically motivated rather than rooted in constructive engagement,” says the statement.
The youth leaders reaffirmed their support for Senator Katung, citing his record of impactful legislation and community development over the past two years.
They highlighted his efforts in attracting key federal interventions, including relief for diphtheria victims in 2023, a ₦1.6 billion bailout for ginger farmers in 2024, and legislative motions for the establishment of a Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia, a Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan, and a Technology Incubation Centre in Kafanchan.
Other community-focused initiatives credited to the senator include fertilizer distribution to farmers, scholarships for indigent students, the renovation of a rural hospital, construction of a science laboratory, and the provision of over 30 boreholes, many of which are solar-powered.
“This dangerous ‘Pull Him Down’ culture must be rejected by all right-thinking Southern Kaduna youths,” the statement read, warning against using youth platforms to promote political vendettas or destabilize the region.
Reaffirming their commitment to peace and inclusive development, the SOKAPU Youth Wing urged all stakeholders to prioritize unity and regional progress, regardless of political affiliation.
“Our loyalty lies with the region, not political divides. Let’s build, not break. Let’s unite, not divide. Let’s lead with responsibility and shared values,” the statement concluded.
