Suspected IPOB gunmen kill 4 policemen, POS operator in Imo

Gunmen suspected to be members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, have killed four policemen and a female POS operator in Imo State, the spokesperson of the police command in the state, ASP Henry Okoye, said on Tuesday.

The incident occurred on Monday along Owerri-Onitsha Expressway where the operatives who were on routine patrol at Irete were ambushed by the attackers.

Okoye said in a press statement that the  Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Aboki Danjuma has ordered the Command’s Tactical Units to collaborate with other sister agencies to hunt down the hoodlums responsible for the attack.

“On receipt of the report on the unfortunate incident, the Commissioner of Police immediately mobilized to the scene for an on-the-spot assessment of the ugly incident wherein the lifeless bodies of the deceased were evacuated and deposited at the mortuary for preservation, while the injured victim was rushed to a nearby hospital where he is currently responding to treatment,” he added.

He said the commissioner had expressed sadness over the incident and vowed to get the perpetrators.

“The tragic incident serves as a painful reminder of the daily risks and sacrifices police officers embrace in their unwavering commitment to public safety,” the CP was quoted as saying.
