Taraba Govt To Address Infrastructure Deficit In Public Schools
Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has said that his administration would continue to invest in the education sector, including addressing the existing infrastructure deficit in public schools.
The Governor, who met with Principals and Head Teachers of public schools on Tuesday in Jalingo, said while efforts were being made to construct new schools, the government would renovate existing schools to create conducive environment for teaching and learning.
He said that the meeting was to get first hand report from the schools heads on the condition of their schools to guide government in providing needed intervention.
Kefas directed the principals and head teachers to provide him with the number of public primary and secondary schools in the state, and the number of teachers and students in each local government area.
He announced the formation of Community Education Development Committee in each local government area and gave them two weeks to submit quotations and proposals for the schools to be renovated, promising to release funds immediately.
He said that the government would release funds directly to the Principals and Head Teachers to handle the renovation of school furniture, fencing, tree planting and access roads among others.
The Governor directed the revival of Parent Teachers Association, PTA, in all public schools to help in monitoring the progress of government interventions.
In her remarks, the Commissioner of Basic Education, Dr Augustina Godwin, highlighted that the meeting aimed to explore new directions for the state’s educational future.
Dr Godwin said the governor’s free education policy has significantly boosted school enrollment, while efforts are ongoing to deliver quality teaching, digital literacy, and vocational training.
