Nigerians have been hit with another increase in the price of petrol, raising further concerns about likely rise in the cost of goods and services in the country.
On Wednesday, the pump price of petrol per litre jumped from N897 to N1,030 in Abuja filling stations belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL).
Some of the filling stations were closed to enable the attendants to adjust the meters to reflect the new pump price.
In Lagos where petrol was sold for 6N885 per ltire, the price is now N998.
The NNPCL recently said it would no longer serve as middleman in fuel trading. “We can no longer continue to bear that burden,” an official had said.
This implies that the national oil company will no longer cover the price gap between the facility’s price and the selling price to retailers, put at N133 per litre.
